A private boat? Would this cost a fortune? I had never considered renting one out, notably because I was concerned about cost and about the ease in which it could be controlled. Corfu, was a chance to do something we had never done. Our boat (which we could actually drive ourselves – fairly easy, as it seemed!) was small but super sturdy and fast – and it led us to gorgeous empty beaches and around little islands where only seagulls would nest and encircle. The boat was actually not as bank breaking as I thought it would be – about 60 Euros for the whole day (regardless of the number of passengers) with fuel added on top. No regrets – it was probably one of the most magical experiences in my recent memory of a trip – equipped with a liberating sense of freedom, the excitement that there were lands just waiting for us to traverse, and a curious appetite for adventure, we were ready to go tackle the seas!
One thing we did found challenging, however, was docking! However, with a bit of patience, we anchored ourselves in-between the treacherous rocks and managed to find sweet spots of clear sand. We explored a large part of the coast of Paleokastritsa, taking a dip in the sea when we felt like it and ate a nice little lunch on the sand!
