Bluest of the blue sea, a never ending horizon and an abandoned lighthouse. In the north-west of Mykonos, you are in a perfect place to view the neighbouring island of Tinos. What adventures lie ahead when there is so much left to see?
The Armenistis Lighthouse is surrounded by breathtaking beautiful sights and crystal-clear waters. This was one of our first stops when we visited Mykonos (the Island of the Winds), Greece, which brims with culture, history and the iconic scenes of Greek white buildings and hilly landscapes.
Interesting fact is that this Armenistis Lighthouse was built after an English steamboat (VOLTA) was shipwrecked in 1887; however the first year the lighthouse was operated was almost a century later: 1983. Sauter Lemonier was responsible for its construction and actually won a prize from the International Exhibition of Paris. Apparently you can view the original lamp at the Aegean Maritime Museum of Mykonos.
This quaint lighthouse was a spectacular start to our holiday – we rented a car, which was waiting for us in the airport when we arrived. Mykonos is quite small, you can get to various interest points within an hour, easily. The beaches on the south coast are sandy, with much less rocks compared to the north. The roads are a bit rough to drive at times, with rocky and unfurnished terrains, but there’s no better way to explore. We managed to see so much within three days! I cannot wait to blog about my experience in full (yes, a separate post is required!) about the island of Delos (the mythical birthplace of Apollo). As a lover of Antiquity, I could not believe my eyes when all expectations were successfully exceeded!
These FOREVER XXI sandals were exactly what I needed for this trip – easy to walk around in, comfortable and also, I wasn’t terrified of having them destroyed. The LAVISH ALICE jumpsuit, with its flattering but loose design, allowed me to run around excitedly and climb up walls and the like! The opening at the back kept me cool (but I had to ensure I applied suncream regularly, of course – a triangular patch of sunburn would not be very attractive at all!) and I really like the striking pattern – which shows up beautifully in photos!
